Letters to the Mayor
ELEMENT writes "climate letters" to the mayor
The exhibit "Dear Mayor: Oslo" is Oslo's version of "Letters to the Mayor", an international project initiated by the art and architecture gallery Storefront for Art and Architecture, New York. Oslo displayed personal letters from local residents, architects and urban planners. The purpose was to highlight architects' visions and desires for Oslo’s development in the years to come, thus prompting discussion and debate concerning the city's future. "Dear Mayor: Oslo" was part of the Planning and Building Agency's participation process in developing new architecture policies for Oslo. ELEMENT advocated for the city's roofs to be green, and facilitate in delaying stormwater – for torrential rain in cities is a huge socio-economic problem!
Since 2014, Letters to the Mayor has been implemented in cities around the world, including Bogota, Mexico City, Athens, Taipei, Lisbon, Berlin, Toronto and New York. Storefront for Art and Architecture collaborates with various local institutions to develop and execute the project in each location. The Oslo Architecture Triennale was a local partner for the Oslo version.
